By the time you are done reading this post, you will have gained knowledge about SEO and stop guessing, spend more time on resources and what really actually works.

How to Optimize Posts for SEO

The Right Keywords

Keyword research is the most important aspect of SEO. This should be the very first thing you do when you are planning on writing new blog content. This lays down the foundation of your optimization and should not get it wrong.

When you target the right keywords, you are helping Google understand what your article is about. This increases the chances of your article being ranked on the first page of Google.

Personally, I would recommend using the Yoast SEO plugin as it requires you to choose a focus keyword when you are publishing content and then makes sure you are using the focus keyword appropriately in your content before publishing.

To be successful in SEO, you will need to understand user intent and target your keywords based on that intent.

Putting it simply means to what the searcher is looking for and expecting to find when they search for those keywords in Google.

For instance, if you are selling small kitchen appliances on your blog, you will need to rank for keywords such as buy small kitchen appliances, purchase small kitchen appliances and so on. This is so users looking to buy small kitchen appliances will likely see your store on google.

As an affiliate marketer with affiliation by posting product links in your content, your focus keyword can be the best small kitchen appliances, comparison of small kitchen appliances and so on.

Low Difficulty Keywords

Keyword difficulty is important to measure you need to keep an eye on while choosing keywords for your blog content. The higher the keyword difficulty the more competition you will have made it harder to rank for those keywords.

When choosing your keywords, you will need to find keywords that have decent traffic volume with low competition.

To help you with keyword research, I recommend a keyword tool like Jaaxy.

You can also use the search provided below to start researching low difficulty keywords.

For keyword researching, I prefer Jaaxy Because it shows me the low hanging fruit among my keyword ideas that will be easy to rank for and also gives the estimated number of monthly visitors for those keywords.

To learn more about low hanging fruit keywords, I recommend the lesson by Kyle “Understanding the Low Hanging Fruit”.

Long-Tail Keywords

Long-Tail keywords are phrases of three or four keywords that are very specific to what you are selling and are easier to rank because of lower competition.

When your potential reader users the specific search phrases on Google they know exactly what they are looking for. If you create content that matches that search intently you will rank high!

These keywords need to be placed correctly within your content like title, description, and the subheading of your content.

You can use Jaaxy to find long-tail keywords by entering your keyword in the search bar and click on search. It will give you a list of suggestions with the number of searches per month, along with possible ranking on Google.

Another article I would recommend is “How to Place a Long Tail Keyword into a Page Title”. Also, “ Keyword Research Done the Quick and Easy Way”.

Now that you have your list of keywords that you can target, let us move on to on-page optimization. Where you will put the keywords researched to use in your content.

Keywords in Title and Subheadings

There is some correlation between keywords in the title tag and Google rank.

I suggest using your primary keyword and the different variation in your content heading tags.

However, do not stuff your keyword in an attempt to manipulate your blog site’s ranking because that will lead to a negative impact on your website.

Writing Compelling Titles and Meta Description.

You probably do not know that click-through rate for your page in search results is also a ranking factor on Google. For instance, your blog article is listed in the third position for a keyword and you have managed to receive more clicks than the first, you will rise to the second or first in due time.

To receive a high click-through rate and stay there on the top spot you will need to write titles and descriptions that grab the attention of the user to encourage them to click on your website.

Keep in mind that for your title, you only have 60 character limit, need to give some serious thought before writing it.

There are a few more things that you need to remember when writing SEO titles and meta descriptions for your content.

  1. Do not let your title and description be cut off in Google. You want the user to get the complete idea of what your content is about.
  2. Make sure to add the keyword in your title and the description.
  3. Do not stuff keywords and that your writing is original and natural.

You can easily add titles and Meta descriptions if you have SEO plugin Yoast or All-In-One-SEO installed on your WordPress blog.

Making Your Blog Responsive

Google uses mobile-first indexing that means it looks at the mobile site to determine how to rank it in the search results and even if the search is done on a desktop computer.

This is why it is important that your blog site works well on mobile devices and even if most of your visitors use a desktop computer.

To help with this, you will need to pick a responsive WordPress theme. There are lots of responsive WordPress themes you can pick from on the market.

Optimize Images to Help Drive Traffic

Here is something that lots of bloggers do not know about and that is Google Image searches that can send lots of traffic to your site if you optimize your images.

All you have to do is add alt text to your images and to do this click on your image and specify the alternative text with your keywords.

With the correct description in the alternative text box, Google can then recognize what your image is about to help your readers discover it when they do a google image search.

SEO changes a lot, just keep up with the basics and you will still get results.
